Home sweet home

20 mei 2013 - Woubrugge, Nederland

So I arrived yesterday morning around 9.30 at the airport. I had to get my luggage, for which I had to wait only five minutes or so, and then I walked out to where my parents where waiting. I was happy to see them again, it was three weeks ago that I saw them. We drove home and within an hour after landing I was home again.
Even though I miss the US, it's also great to be home again. Tomorrow, it's my first day of school again, when I'll see all my classmates again. I'm looking forward to hear all their stories, even though I already read about many of them!
I look back at my internship as an amazing time, where I have met so many lovely people, both my hostfamily and my colleagues were so nice to me all the time!
Of course, there are many difference between the US and The Netherlands, all streets are perfectly straight and everything is done by car. They do have some bicycles, but only a few people ride them. People love their car. Almost all restaurants have a drive-thru, and I even saw an ATM with a drive-thru. But, of course, everything lies much further apart then here, so therefore it is logic that they do all by car. Americans also love there drink cold, the freezer of my hostfamily had an 'ice-maker.' That is something I'm really gonna miss, the access to ice at any moment. Especially when summer comes and when it gets very warm again. The weather was lovely in Detroit, I think I only had one day of rain and one cold weekend. Now that I'm home, it's cold and rainy. I surely did not miss that!
During the internship itself, I have learned many things and I look back at the it as a wonderful experience. I already knew how to work with Excel, but now I do know some more functions.
I also learned about the atmosphere at an office. Of course this was an American one, and I think that the employees have a huge role in the atmosphere, but still it was amazing.
I think that this internship improved me as a person. I was there on my own, without being able to lean on someone you already know. I believe that was a good point about this internship, because with the trips we did the other years, it was possible to talk to someone you really know and who also knows you when you wanted to. Now, I could also contact people, but they could not help me immidiatly. Of course, I'm not a complete other person, but I have gained more confidence that I'm able to do things on my own.
I will never forget these three weeks, the people I've met and all knowledge and experiences I gained! It was an amazing, wonderful, awesome time!!!
